Jesus is my Jack
I love movies! Adventure, action, suspense, comedy…I love them all. One of the greatest reasons I love movies is that God speaks to me in movies. I know I am not alone in this. I have had several people share with me their experience. Freedom rings in the Matrix. Creation and the Creator are portrayed in Tron. I don’t have time to talk about Inception, Avengers, or Avatar. However, today I want to share with you about my Jesus in the movie TITANIC.
It starts with a girl named Rose. She has plans, dreams, and a future with a prestigious man. He appears to give her all that she needs. Her friends and family tell her who she is, and what she was created to be. She is content. She believes that she is who they say that she is. Her role is to marry well, be financially secure, and have a name in society.
Then enters Jack! He is wild, carefree, adventurous, and curiously attractive. He spots Rose, and begins the pursuit. He begins to pull her into seeing things outside of her normal routine. He introduces her to life outside of her definitions of what is right and what is wrong. Adventure, romance, freedom all begins to stir within her, and she becomes desperate for Jack.
Rose chooses Jack. Jack, who has nothing to offer her but adventure and love. She chooses him. Their love grows and deepens until you can no longer tell who loves who more. Then the hour comes when the Titanic goes down. Jack is left with the decision to save himself or rescue the one he loves. There is no choice to Jack. He saves the one he loves, and gives his life for her.
Now Rose has to decide how she wants to live. She is given the opportunity to go back to where she started or to cling to the love and life that Jack gave her. Again, she chooses well. She turns from what was and begins the journey of what is. Her life begins to be filled with color. She explores, she loves, and she finds joy. As she ends this life without Jack present, she “wakes up” and she is back on the Titanic. Who is there to greet her, to be forever united with her? Jack.
That’s what my Jesus did for me. He chose me. He loved me before I ever chose him. He showed me a life free of the definitions and boundaries that I had believed. He laid his life down for me. He gave me more than I could ever give back. He shows me how to love His purpose and dreams for me while I am here. So, like Rose, until I am reunited with Him, I will live free. I will follow the adventure and live life the way that He has shown me is possible. Jesus is my Jack!
