Do you let your friends control your bank account?

How crazy is that question? Would you actually hand your bank account over to someone? I can tell you I have allowed friends and strangers to have my account number and make many, many, many transactions. It has left me overdrawn and sometimes bankrupt. I believe the Lord is showing me this is not how He intended I handle my account.

You may be asking yourself, "What on earth is she talking about?" Your bank account is actually your personal soul; your mind, will, and emotions. The Lord is to be the only one who truly has access to your account. He is the only one capable of making deposits and withdrawals.

Who are you allowing to deposit and withdraw from your mind, will and emotions? What does that look like?

What if your friends are meant to help manage your account and not make deposits and withdrawals?

To manage your "account" you have to shift things around, prioritize, make changes to where and how you spend your mind, will and emotions. People who get to speak into your account are given a lot of influence. They have permission to influence the way you think and feel. We need people to speak into our accounts. We need to give them access to help manage and navigate our account. =

If we no longer allow others to make deposits and withdrawals and we only allow the Lord, what does that mean?

Consider, when something is deposited it grows and when something is withdrawn it leaves and is no more.

God wants to deposit things into our lives to grow and bloom into something. When we allow people to do this, it is not always going to look how God designed it to look. It will be through the filter of their life.

People were not meant to make those deposits. We often look to others to fill our account. Even when we aren’t looking for people to fill us, we long for them to. But that is not what God wants nor is it how he designed us. He wants to be the one we make the exchange with. He wants to deposit his truth, his word, his call, his very nature. He wants to take out lies, fears and all sorts of wrong thinking. People are there to help influence what he has placed in us. This is why it is so important that we choose wisely who we allow to manage our soul. Iron sharpens iron. Iron does not create, grow or remove iron.

We are to also help people manage what God has deposited or withdrawn in them. We are to call out the seeds he has planted and to remind them of the things he has removed. It is not our responsibility to put those things in them. The parable of the sower is that the sower was the one planting. The sower is the Lord. He is the only one that can make things grow. Others influence the growth.

We must stop looking to people to be the ones who make the deposit in us, but instead look to the Lord and what He can do. We need to shift how we see our relationship with Him and with others. God is not the manager. He is the sower.
